Where design meets performance: the AERO X16 laptop for work and play

For years, the GIGABYTE brand has been primarily associated with gaming. Robust components, powerful graphics cards, and hardware for those who like to work at lightning speed. Meanwhile, another line has long been developing within the brand’s portfolio – aimed at people who work just as hard as they relax. The AERO X16 laptop is the best proof that GIGABYTE can design devices that are not only fast, but also elegant, portable and tailored to the daily challenges of those in the creative industry.

The AERO X16 has found its way into the hands of the whiteMAD editorial team. The laptop is just 16.25 mm thick and weighs 1.9 kg, so it fits easily into a bag alongside a sketchbook, camera or graphics tablet. You can also easily take it on a business trip and set up a mobile editorial office anywhere in the world. In a café, on a train, in a co-working space, on a terrace… This is made possible by a long-lasting battery that provides up to 14 hours of use without the need to frantically search for a power socket. Another advantage here is the ability to charge via a USB-C port, using the same charger we use for our phone or other devices. Fewer cables in your rucksack means greater mobility!

Appearance matters

The device is available in two colour options: with a silver outer casing or a black one. Both are characterised by minimalism, adorned only with distinctive cut-outs at the hinges and a small manufacturer’s logo on a mirror-finish background at the top of the casing. The laptop lid can be opened with a single finger – the base remains firmly anchored to the surface. Interestingly, this simple casing gives no hint that inside lies hardware capable of handling Photoshop projects, video editing or modelling in SketchUp. With these capabilities, editing photos for our articles was a piece of cake for the laptop.

The keyboard was a pleasant surprise. The keys are soft to the touch and the click is barely audible. Combined with the enlarged touchpad, this keyboard provides a setup that allows you to work comfortably without a mouse.

Large screen

The 16-inch IPS display, with a 165 Hz refresh rate and Pantone certification, is a tool that anyone working with colour will appreciate. With 500 nits of brightness and full sRGB coverage, photos, graphics and video content look exactly as they should – with no surprises when it comes to the final export. And when it’s time for a film or a series after work, the screen does its job, and the sound takes care of the rest: the built-in 2W speakers, supported by Dolby Atmos, can surprise you with their spatial depth and clarity, so you don’t need to reach for your headphones straight away. The laptop becomes a rather pleasant companion for an evening’s relaxation.

Gigabyte M27Q2 QD monitor

For those who work in a hybrid setup and frequently switch between a laptop and a desktop workstation, the Gigabyte M27Q2 QD monitor is a great complement to the AERO X16. It’s a screen that combines the precision of creative work with the smoothness gamers expect. The WQHD IPS panel with 99% DCI-P3 coverage guarantees vivid, accurate colours, whilst the matte finish eliminates glare. A 200 Hz refresh rate and 1 ms response time ensure the image remains dynamic and sharp even during fast-paced video editing or intense gaming. What’s more, G-SYNC technology eliminates tearing and stuttering, whilst the ergonomic design allows you to position the screen exactly as you like. This is a monitor that genuinely enhances your working comfort – both in terms of quality and health (thanks to the blue light filter).

Powerful performance

Now for a bit of technical detail (for those who like to know what’s hidden inside). The AERO X16 features an AMD Ryzen processor with a built-in NPU, so the laptop easily handles intelligent tasks supported by Copilot. Some everyday tasks, such as smart power management or minor automations, simply run in the background. Graphics are handled by a GeForce RTX graphics card (depending on the version, either a 5050, 5060 or 5070) – a setup that isn’t afraid to tackle Photoshop and handles working on multiple layers simultaneously with ease. Video editing? Large files? No problem. The NVIDIA Studio platform and DLSS 4 technology do their bit to ensure everything renders faster. And when you fancy playing a game in the evening, the laptop doesn’t make a fuss – NVIDIA Max-Q technology ensures the hardware doesn’t sound like a drone taking off.

Easier working

At work, it’s not just power that counts, but also how quickly and securely you can get back to your projects. That’s why the AERO X16 features Windows Hello, meaning you can log in quickly using facial recognition. One glance and you’re in, with no need to type in passwords, no downtime and no risk of anyone seeing your password as you type. A directional microphone is also useful at work, clearly picking up your voice during video conferences and effectively reducing background noise.

Creativity thrives in silence

It’s worth mentioning the cooling. The proprietary WINDFORCE system, known from GIGABYTE’s more powerful designs, keeps temperatures in check when several applications are open at once. When the workload drops, however, the laptop switches to an almost silent mode. With such quiet ventilation, you can easily edit video even whilst having your morning coffee in a café.

The AERO X16 is a solid choice for architects, designers, photographers and creators who need hardware that keeps pace with their work – from the first email of the morning to watching your favourite series in the evening. Lightweight, powerful and minimalist in design. A laptop that genuinely expands your scope of work and lets you work wherever you happen to be.
