With a hint of the Memphis Group. Beautiful flat in Kyiv

In one of the newest residential complexes located on the banks of the Dnieper, a space has been created that pushes the boundaries of conventional living. The metric bureau studio is responsible for the interior design, and the vision of the owners – a creative couple with a penchant for bold experimentation – has been met here with theatrical flair and functional flair.

Already the corridor greets visitors with an intense red that covers both walls and ceiling. The built-in shoe cupboard blends into the uniform surface thanks to metal shelves and concealed doors leading to the technical systems. A glazed sliding wall creates the effect of a small doll’s box, while minimalist recessed lighting fixtures in the ceiling add a futuristic lightness to the whole.

Living room – a portal to another reality

The main motif of the living area is a large, rounded passageway with a diameter of 210 cm, lined with soft fur. Like a theatrical portal, this structure leads to the balcony on the 26th floor, but above all invites reflection and contemplation. The backdrop is the saturated green of the walls, against which shine metal shelves with library designs and pieces from the Alpi collection signed by Ettore Sottsass. Furniture by Ukrainian designers – a sofa from SVOYA Studio, a Woo armchair and a table from Pecherytsia – emphasise the local character of the arrangement.

The balcony space has been given the character of a surreal swimming pool thanks to a floor tiled with Seletti tiles imitating water. The walls are clad in mosaic, and stepped seating introduces a sense of immersion.

Kitchen with guest lizard

The kitchen area is dominated by the same deep shade of green and the contrasting red of the veneered upper cabinets. The central accent is a painting depicting an elegant lizard – by Ukrainian artist Valery Kuznetsov. The concrete pylon, which used to separate the kitchenette from the rest of the living room, now reflects the space thanks to its mirrored cladding. This keeps the six-metre-long kitchen light and tidy, despite the abundance of storage and appliances. A felt Audo lamp hovers above the round table, and the juxtaposition of red and white chairs gives the place a light and finesse feel.

A dream on a grand scale

In the private area, the designers have created a 7-metre-long place to sleep. Wall&Decò’s fanciful wallpaper transports you to a world of imagination, while the large circular mirror with backlighting alludes to the phenomenon of the sun’s corona. A black tassel adorns the lamps and dressing table, introducing a hint of theatricality. The transition to the dressing room is marked by heavy metal chain curtains that conceal a perfectly planned all-black space for clothes and accessories.

Bathroom

The contrasting combination of intense blue and blood red takes you into a kaleidoscope of emotions. Ceramica Vogue tiles form the substrate onto which the red recess with shelf, the transition to the shower, ‘falls’. An equally saturated shade is taken up by the acrylic washbasin, which has been subtly integrated into the cabinet. A subtle semi-circular opening at the bottom serves as convenient access to the cat litter tray, discreetly matching the overall arrangement.

The flat, for which Svitlana Moskalenko and her team are responsible, is the most expressive metric bureau project of the last two years. It combines the surreal visions of a passionate couple with practical solutions, leaving the space teeming with drama, colourful theatricality and everyday comfort. As Moskalenko summarises: “Every risk was justified by ergonomics. We wanted the flat to be not only a spectacle, but also a favourite place for everyday life.”
