With a touch of Italian elegance. A flat in the centre of Warsaw

The flat, designed by Dominika Strzałka-Rogal in collaboration with Emilia Grzesik from the Lessness studio, is an example of a space that deliberately defies clear-cut categorisation. Although situated in the centre of Warsaw, it does not succumb to the city’s typical hustle and bustle. Instead, it creates its own tranquil character, where everyday life intertwines with subtle references to Italian aesthetics and elegance.

Right from the entrance, the eye is drawn to a portal that frames the city panorama. This architectural feature organises the space and provides a backdrop for an impressive library, filled with books and personal mementos. It is here that the character of the design is revealed: private, intimate, yet consciously rooted in the urban context. Marble with deep, almost painterly veining defines the kitchen and living area, becoming a key element of the composition. Its nobility is emphasised by the light, which softly reflects off the stone’s surface, creating an impression of elegance devoid of excess.

The architects consistently build tension between textures. Classic dark oak herringbone flooring sits alongside a geometric mosaic in the hall, evoking associations with the floors of Roman palazzi. In the bathroom, stone with emerald veining is paired with brushed brass fittings and delicate mosaics, reinforcing the impression of understated luxury. Each material has been selected to contribute to a coherent, multi-layered narrative of elegance without flashy accents.

One of the most surprising elements is the cloud-patterned wallpaper on the ceiling. This unexpected choice introduces lightness and depth, whilst at the same time bringing the composition to a close in an artistic manner. It is a detail that alters the perception of the space, lending it softness and a touch of surreal charm.

The kitchen area is dominated by monolithic dark wood units, contrasted with a gold-coloured niche. Subtle lines and precise finishes emphasise the craftsmanship of the design. In the bedroom, the architects have opted for a sense of calm – bespoke wall panels appear here, organising the space and introducing a harmonious rhythm of materials. The colour palette remains consistent: warm beiges, deep browns, gold and accents of antique green create atmospheric scenes, enhanced by carefully selected lighting and design icons.

The project as a whole is an example of a conscious, mature approach to interior design. The flat does not seek to impress at first glance – its strength lies in the details, in the quality of the materials, and in the harmony of the composition. It is a space that lives alongside its inhabitants, offering them comfort, aesthetics and a sense of belonging in a place created with their everyday lives in mind.
