With an artistic flair. Flat on Fabryczna Street in Kraków

It was built for a young family. A couple with a child decided to move into a new residential building on Fabryczna Street in Krakow. They invited architects from the One Desk studio to design the interior.

It is a corner flat with windows facing north and west. In addition to several wishes for functional solutions, the family living here wanted their books and posters to be displayed with dignity. Both the former and the latter are plentiful, as can be seen in the published photos. The designers decided to make the books and posters a decorative asset.

The functional layout proposed by the developer has been largely retained. Only a few changes were made, which included enlarging the living room space. A new room, not envisaged by the developer – the pantry – was placed next to the kitchen. A slight relocation of the partition walls also made it possible to hide the fridge, and the extra free space made it possible to arrange a decorative niche in the kitchen.

The architects did not want to stick to an aesthetic scheme. They wanted it to give a sense of freedom and openness to change. The loose compositions of the wall graphics, the large amount of free-standing furniture instead of built-in furniture, the various textures and colours of the wood are intended to give the impression that the family has lived here for many years. By simply changing a few accessories, the space takes on a different character.

The designers opted for a warm colour palette. The oak parquet is honey-coloured, the veneer in the kitchen is a distinctive walnut colour and the green sofas give a sense of freshness. Completing this palette is the noble and deep indigo colour, which appears in the kitchen and on all interior doors.

The total area of the flat is 76 sq m.
