With the Palace of Culture in the background. Eclectic flat in Warsaw

Its design was carried out by Katarzyna Sosińska. The eclectic flat in Warsaw is 50 sq m in size. Its location in the city centre is not its only asset. Another is the thoughtful design, thanks to which functionality goes hand in hand with an attractive appearance. Here, every frame is like the perfect setting for a photo on Instagram.

From the moment you enter the interior, the soft and rounded furniture catches your eye. These are counterbalanced by elements of raw, natural stone. The quartzite worktops, subtly illuminated by daylight, create a harmonious space that offers a view of the Palace of Culture.

The flat is located in an old building, so what can be seen in the photos is the result of a general renovation carried out here. Combining classics with modern touches became the designer’s main task.

I listen to the client’s needs, but I always try to convince them to at least delicately step out of their comfort zone and look for bolder solutions other than those they have already seen somewhere,’ explains Katarzyna Sosińska.

The designer got to know the investor’s needs and proposed considerable changes. The first sketches of the new division of rooms surprised the client, but he decided to trust the designer and her vision. She managed to convince him to take a few more daring steps, such as the unusual choice of glass as a leg material in the kitchen island. Another interesting solution is the positioning of the bedroom. The glazing between the bed and the living room introduces more light into the living area, while the soft curtain allows a sense of privacy.

When designing the interior, what can be seen outside the window played a big role. The sofa was positioned in a slightly asymmetrical way, so that both from it and from the armchair, one can freely admire the urban landscape and the Palace of Culture and Science.

The kitchen also stands out in the interior. It is distinguished by a built-in in an intense colour, but thanks to its slight concealment it only seems to mark its presence discreetly. This impression is enhanced by the light form of the island, which visually enlarges the space and brings light into it.

The eclectic flat shows how curves can be used effectively. The shapes in the bathroom, whether on the wall or on the furniture, harmonise with the rest of the furnishings. Softness and harmony are also evident in many other details, from the finish of the bookcase niche to the shape of the sofa.

Following the client’s expectations, the flat was filled with classic solutions: French herringbone flooring, plaster stucco or a muted colour base. When choosing furnishings, the focus was on Polish manufacturers and craftsmen who, as Katarzyna Sosińska points out, are often underestimated. At the same time, there was no lack of architectural highlights, such as the blue Flowerpot lamp or the armchair in the shade of 2024: Fuzzy Peach. The use of natural stone also adds elegance, and the whole is completed by a painting by Kamila Kraus, which impresses with its simplicity and power of expression.
