At a time when everything is being processed and transformed, it can be surprising to see what an object looks like before this process starts. It may then turn out that it doesn’t need all these changes at all. Austerity in the interior can be the answer to a motley array of colours or forms. The BRUTAL collection from AQForm is a novelty not only in their offer, but also in the entire lighting market. BRUTAL is a completely different approach to the material and its finish. Aluminium lamps like this make it possible to create original interiors.
Today’s technology allows us to cover virtually any surface with paint. Sometimes, however, it is worth pausing to notice the beauty of a raw, freshly treated material. Aluminium that has just been produced, still warm after coming off the machine, impresses with its purity. After careful processing, it reveals a fascinating surface – free of flaws and unnecessary embellishment, showing every trace of the work of the tools that gave it its final shape. It is this moment that AQForm’s designers have captured in the BRUTAL collection’s luminaires, protecting them with just a thin layer of satin clear protective varnish.
The authenticity of the material
Just as working with wood can be mesmerising, working with aluminium can have a surprising effect. The BRUTAL series from AQForm represents the material’s genuineness, its authenticity and its rawness. It is this rawness that is the leitmotif of the collection.
“Every element in this collection remains in its natural state – the aluminium has not been hidden under layers of paint, but only protected from the effects of time and accidental damage. Thanks to this, what is usually only accessible to the eye of a machine operator can now also be found in interiors,” says Barbara Olesiak-Kasparek, Marketing Manager, AQForm.
The collection consists of four luminaire models: TRIBA, KLIVA, CONA and OPTIMA.
TRIBA – the turned and then delicately brushed surface of this luminaire reveals every stage of processing, creating a unique effect that combines industrial rawness with elegance.
KLIVA and CONA – these collections owe their subtle curves to the process of dribbling, a precise method of forming metal on a spinning disk. During this process, the metal is gradually shaped with tools to produce rounded, flowing forms. The curved edges are evidence of the precise work of the craftsmen who carefully shaped them into their final form. Every trace of this process can be clearly seen on their surface, which gives them a unique, raw character.
OPTIMA – is a luminaire that focuses on function and the fulfilment of specific lighting tasks. In the BRUTAL version, it presents itself without additional embellishment, making it even more authentic and austere.
Resistant for years
Each luminaire in the BRUTAL collection has only been coated with a clear lacquer with a satin finish. This protects the surface of the aluminium from corrosion and discolouration, while also resisting accidental scratches or fingerprints. It is a finish that not only emphasises the austere character of the luminaires, but also ensures their longevity.
