It is small, but it is located in the city centre. A street near the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw has been named after the artist since Wednesday 9 October. Wojciech Fangor, an outstanding painter, graphic artist, sculptor and poster designer, has been honoured by the city in this way.
Wojciech Fangor’s works are not only to be found in museums or art galleries, but they accompany the people of Warsaw on a daily basis. It is his mosaics that can be seen on the walls of the platforms of the Warszawa Śródmieście railway station (see HERE), or the stations of the central section of the second metro line.
In addition to city representatives, the street’s naming ceremony was attended by Piotr Patkowski, who represented the artist’s family and the Fangor Foundation.
I am glad that we are commemorating Wojciech Fangor in this very space. There are at least two reasons for this – the close proximity of the Museum of Modern Art, where the artist’s works are kept, and the second metro line. Seven stations of this line owe their final appearance to the patron of today’s ceremony. The inscriptions on the individual stops, from Świętokrzyska to the National Stadium, form a gallery of world op-art,” says Ewa Malinowska-Grupińska, Chairwoman of the Warsaw City Council.

Wojciech Fangor Street was built on the occasion of the construction of the new headquarters of the Museum of Modern Art. The street is 300 metres long and decorated with dozens of trees.
The museum itself will open soon. We recently published photos of the interior, where the final finishing touches were being made. You can find that article HERE.
The new museum building is easily accessible by metro. The closest is the entrance to the Świętokrzyska metro station. In 2007. Wojciech Fangor won a competition to design the decoration of seven stations and the street entrances to the railway.
Wojciech Fangor’s archives contain over 8,000 objects that document the artist’s work and life. Part of the collection is held by the Museum of Modern Art.
