Silesian homestead. Brick house on the edge of the forest

Situated on the picturesque edge of the forest, the single-family house is a contemporary interpretation of a traditional country house. The design is based on three archetypal barn-like volumes, each with a separate function – day, night and farm. PRACOWNIA 88 is responsible for the design of the building.

The house is modern, but its form refers to the traditional architecture of the region. The central part of the building houses the kitchen with facilities and is covered by a minimalist flat roof, which contrasts with the classic silhouette of the side segments. The separation of functions promotes ergonomics and order in domestic life, creating a clear sequence of internal spaces.

Spatial composition

The arrangement of the three volumes forms intimate, semi-private spaces between them, directly inscribed in the rhythm of the garden and the rows of trees. Geometric canopies with exposed trusses define the transitions and emphasise the rhythm of the architecture without dominating the landscape. In this way, the house reveals itself gradually, like an exhibit in a neighbourhood of greenery.

The facades are finished with cut tiles of recycled brick and wood, which gives the building a timeless character. The brick, used not as decoration but as the primary construction and finishing material, creates the texture of the façade and evokes historical references of local rural buildings. Wood warms the material layer and introduces a natural accent that responds to light and the seasons. Carefully designed details combine tradition with modern precision workmanship to provide a distinct yet warm perception of the house.

Glazing and strong contact with nature

Large glazings open up the interiors to the surrounding greenery and ensure contact with nature at all times of the year. The windows act as frames that change the view with the times of day and the seasons, introducing a dynamic dialogue between the interior and the forest. Natural materials in the interiors enhance this impression and make the transformation of light in the space the central experience of the flat. The minimalist form does not compete for attention, but allows nature to take over as the main protagonist of the setting.

Covered terrace as outdoor living room

The covered terrace on the living room side acts as an outdoor living room – a place for rest, relaxation and meetings. The terrace is designed as an extension of the living area, where furniture, light and landscaping create a coherent zone of social life beyond the boundaries of the building. The canopy gives comfort for most of the year and reinforces the feeling of being sheltered without being isolated from nature. It is the ideal place to relax!

A house in tune with nature

The zoning of the building, the use of natural materials and the frugal, minimalist form create a house that does not compete with its surroundings, but becomes an integral part of them. The building functions as a peaceful retreat in the rhythm of nature, offering simplicity of use and a rich aesthetic experience. The reclaimed brick lends an authenticity and permanence to the whole, which will deepen over time, merging the house with the landscape.
