Zielona Góra: 19th century villa is beautiful again

Zielona Góra is continuing its programme of refreshing its historic buildings, and one of its latest results is the renovation that a 19th-century villa at 18 Kazimierza Wielkiego Street has undergone. Comprehensive work under the supervision of a conservation officer has restored its former elegance and brought out the most valuable features of this eclectic architecture.

Programme of support for monuments in Zielona Góra

This year’s edition of the municipal revitalisation programme attracted many interested parties. Applications were received from the owners of as many as 44 buildings. The committee decided to award 20 grants totalling PLN 2.4 million. Among those awarded was the villa at 18 Kazimierza Wielkiego Street, which, thanks to the support, could undergo a thorough renovation. The city earmarked over PLN 266,000 for its refurbishment. Over 40 per cent of the total investment cost was covered in this way. The rest of the funds were provided by the owner of the property, which made it possible to carry out a wide range of works without any problems.

Nineteenth-century villa – scope of works carried out

The renovation of the 1891 villa included many elements. As part of the work, the façade was refreshed and given a new colour scheme to highlight the details. The fence was also renewed, the garage was modernised and work was carried out in the basement including the walls and floors. The villa also received new shutters, windows and doors, improving its appearance and functionality. Such comprehensive measures have made the building one of the most beautiful in the area and it is impossible to pass by it indifferently.

Renovations continue in Zielona Góra

Zielona Góra regularly allocates funds to support the renovation of historic buildings. Last year, PLN 1.8 million was allocated, making 25 projects possible. At the time, 50 applications were submitted, and the total value of the works reached approximately PLN 5.5 million. Among the results of last year’s activities were renovated facades at 16a Zamkowa Street, 1-1A Sowińskiego Street and 13 Mickiewicza Street.

A 19th-century villa as an example

Each successive investment has a significant impact on improving the appearance of the city. The revitalisation programme enables owners of historic buildings to carry out works that have often been postponed for financial reasons. Using the example of the villa at 18 Kazimierza Wielkiego Street as an example, it can be seen that many neglected buildings in our cities are beautiful structures that require a little money and work to make them flourish again.
