The tenement house on Mniszki Street in Gdańsk will soon have a new look. Renovation work currently underway will be completed by mid-2024. The building is over a hundred years old, and on its side wall there is a mural depicting the image of the mayor of the city, Paweł Adamowicz. According to Gdansk officials, the painting of the late president will not be disturbed. Initially (at the turn of the 20th century), the tenement house was located in a compact downtown development, and its gable walls were adjacent to other buildings. Today it is a free-standing building.
This will be a comprehensive renovation. The work will include insulating the building. In addition, there will be a layer on its walls to insulate the building from moisture. Workers will repair cracks and rebuild the living areas.
A new ceiling over the basement is planned and the roof will be repaired. Some of the doors and windows will be refurbished and some of the woodwork will be replaced with new. Importantly, the new windows and doors will have a historicised appearance. In addition, there will be a new staircase in the stairwells.
The renovation work will also include the building’s infrastructure. The heating hub will be replaced and residents will be able to use central heating.
The renovation work started this month. According to thecontract, they are to be completed in July 2024. After the renovation, 12 comfortable flats will be made available in the tenement house,” reads a statement by Barbara Weiss, senior communications officer at Gdańskie Nieruchomościach, which was published on the gdansk.pl website.
The renovation of the tenement house will cost PLN 5.7 million.
