Historic kindergarten in Gdansk renovated

The works were announced by the Directorate of Urban Development of Gdańsk. The historic kindergarten is located on Do Studzienki Street. It is the former Royal Valley Manor from the second half of the 17th century. Years ago it hosted, among others, King John III Sobieski, and today it is a place of first education for children.

The Royal Valley Manor is located in a picturesque corner of the Wrzeszcz district. It is one of the oldest buildings in this part of Gdansk. The date of construction is estimated to be the second half of the 17th century. The building was constructed for the Gdańsk merchant Zacharias Zappio. King Jan III Sobieski of Poland was a guest here in 1677 and King August II Mocny in 1717.

The building was rebuilt at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. Already during the communist era, a kindergarten was opened here, but the inhabitants recognised its historical value. As a result, it was entered in the register of historical monuments in 1973.

The metamorphosis of the building was carried out with the help of EU funds. During the works, thermal modernisation was carried out, a new façade, windows and stylised green shutters were inserted. The work was completed at the end of 2023.

In addition, maintenance was carried out on the concrete elements of the columns, half-columns and pilasters decorating the entrance. Cracked walls and damage in the basement and attic were repaired. The basement and attic were insulated.

The contractor for the work was PHU “LABAR” LECH LABUDDA. In total, the cost of the works amounted to approximately PLN 3 million.
