It is in Katowice. Ascetic interior of a flat in a tenement house

The new interior design was taken care of by architect Grzegorz Layer. The interior of the flat in the tenement is very spacious. The architect opted for minimalism, which even appears ascetic in many rooms

The project aimed to create a comfortable and modern flat in the interior of a historic tenement house. The challenge was to adapt the complicated, historical interior layout to contemporary functional requirements and to make it more legible. The interior of the flat is as large as 180 square metres. This is a huge space, which offered a lot of possibilities for arrangement

Thanks to new partitions, tidy circulation routes and appropriate zoning, it was possible to create a more open space with a free layout. Additional rooms have also been sectioned off, including a laundry room, a work area and an additional bathroom. The new built-ins were accentuated with distinctive colours, whose decorative character was broken by minimalist, concealed doors

Monolithic strings of furniture, which appear in many of the rooms, emphasise the geometry of the space and the permeation of the various zones. In order to ensure the free flow of natural light, glass partitions of varying textures were used in several areas. The largest room has been converted into a kitchen combined with a dining area and an outdoor terrace. A centrally located, monolithic island and a row of cabinets hiding the entrance to the pantry bring order to this irregular, high space. The master bedroom with dressing room has been combined with the bathroom to create a spacious and comfortable zone isolated from the rest of the flat

Natural, timeless materials have been used in the interiors – wooden parquet flooring, natural veneer in two shades on the furniture built-ins, stone in the kitchen and bathrooms. Italian terracotta in several rooms gives the interiors a sunny, slightly Mediterranean feel. An important premise was the use of antiques collected by the owners – vintage lamps, furniture and accessories, which were highlighted by contrasting with modern, minimalist forms
