JEMS Architects at the exhibition “Layers” at Architektur Galerie Berlin

From 3 November to 9 December 2023, Berlin’s prestigious Architektur Galerie will host the exhibition ‘Layers’, prepared by Warsaw-based architecture practice JEMS Architekci. In the face of dynamic economic, socio-political and environmental changes and challenges, contemporary architecture focuses on finding technical and ideological solutions, adapting to changing external conditions. However, at the same time, the traditional notion of architecture as the art of building durable, simple, timeless and universal objects is being eroded

JEMS Architects focuses on permanence, openness and multiplanarity in its designs. In order to achieve these qualities, the office often works with ‘layers’, which refer to different design aspects such as the construction of form, cultural, programmatic, material, perceptual and climatic aspects

In the exhibition ‘Layers’, JEMS Architects presents six of its own projects, illustrating the potential of layers in the context of sustainable and integral architecture in multiple dimensions. The main themes of the exhibition are

• Layers as physical and ideal building blocks that create surfaces and walls as well as atmosphere.
• Layers as extensions and multi-plan open boundaries between interior and exterior.
• Layers as the basis for sequencing the different climatic zones of a building.
• Layers as a feature of a complex, yet integral, holistic vision of architecture.
• Layers of accessibility, the relational, human dimension of architecture.

The exhibition ‘Layers’ will be open to the public from 3 November to 9 December 2023 at Architektur Galerie Berlin, located at Karl Marx Allee 96. This event is a unique opportunity to explore JEMS Architekci’s architectural concepts and understand how ‘layers’ can influence the perception and experience of space
