A studio apartment with character. Only 20 sq m in size

How to create a functional living space despite a tiny space? A studio apartment with character is located in Prague. Its design was created by architects from Studio Reaktor. The apartment is 20 square metres in size and is located a few hundred metres from the city centre

The architects’ task was to design two studio flats, which were created by dividing an area of 40sqm. These are twin flats, which differ in the colour palette and materials used, but their functionality is almost the same

To reduce the cost of the project, the architects left the original plaster on the walls. Interestingly, it is possible to see the electrician’s handwriting on them regarding the location of the switches. Their deliberate exposure gives the space a slightly industrial feel

The first flat shimmers in various shades of yellow, has bright glazing and a soft feel. The second flat is darker, where the designers combined black elements with glass

Despite their small size, the flats manage to separate the kitchen area, the living room area, the sleeping area and the bathroom. The latter is located next to the kitchen and has been separated by a glass partition wall. The glass allows natural light to enter the bathroom as well. It is worth noting the built-ins that were made with these spaces in mind. The wall under the stairs leading to the mezzanine floor has been fitted with a built-in unit, which forms part of the kitchen and is also used for storing clothes. A similar solution was used in the darker studio

The bedroom in the form of a double bed has been placed on the mezzanine. Also in this part, the wall is decorated only with plaster. To add variety to the interior, the designers used original stuccowork. The interior of both studios is visually warmed by the oak parquet flooring
