Do you design? The 3rd edition of the Paradyż Designers competition has started

The latest edition of the Paradyż Designers competition is not limited to Poland and goes beyond the country’s borders. Designers from all over the world can submit their projects. The jury will be chaired by Jürgen Mayer H., a German architect and winner of the Mies van der Rohe award. Designers and art students will be able to submit their projects in several categories concerning the design of spaces using TRI-D large-format sinters. The total prize pool is €42,000.A trip to the Salone del Mobile trade fair in Milan is alsoup for grabs

The previous edition of the Paradyż Designers competition positively surprised the editors of whiteMAD. The participants submitted high-quality designs and proposed unconventional uses of Paradyż Ceramics collections. We published our article presenting the awarded and commended projects HERE

The new, third edition of the competition is unique for several reasons. The international scope of the competition is also reflected in the composition of the jury, whose chairman is Jürgen Mayer H., a world-renowned architect and artist. Jürgen Mayer H. runs his own design studio in Berlin. His designs are distinguished by a nonchalant, almost sculptural approach to form and the bold implementation of new technologies into building structures

Supporting the judging of the entries will be David Basulto, a renowned architect who has also worked as a curator at a number of architectural biennales and has been a member of the jury for numerous industry competitions. He is also the founder and editor-in-chief of ArchDaily, one of the most visited architecture websites in the world

In addition, the jury includes such figures as Didier Faustino (world-renowned architect and artist, who places the relationship between space, solid and body at the centre of his work), Agnieszka Kalinowska-Sołtys (architect and president of the Association of Polish Architects), Oskar Zięta (architect and artist, known as the Sculptor 4.0, author of the innovative method of forming steel with internal pressure – FiDU), Ewa Porębska (architect, curator and critic of architecture and editor-in-chief of the Architektura-Murator monthly), Szymon Hanczar (architect and artist, graduate of the Faculty of Interior Design and Industrial Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław and lecturer there), Przemo Łukasik (architect and founder of the medusagroup design studio), Magdalena Fedorowicz-Boule (architect, president and director of the Tremend architectural studio), Jo Jurga (Dr. Joanna Jurga professionally involved in space and product design, innovator and specialist in safety-oriented design), Aldona Chudzicka (at Ceramika Paradyż, she holds the position of product development director). The jury also included Alek Pluta of Nomadd Studio, who won first place in the previous edition of the competition for his ‘Pottery Workshop’ project

The competition is curated by Marcin Szczelina, critic and curator of architecture. Creator and editor-in-chief of Architecture Snob magazine, independent expert of the prestigious European Mies van der Rohe Award. Expert of the Climate Leadership Programme under the auspices of the UN Environment Programme

The launch of the competition was announced during a press conference at the Warsaw Home & Contract fair on 8 November 2023

The competition participants’ task is to design interiors using Paradyż Ceramika’s TRI-D large-format sinters, which, thanks to modern technology, are characterised by colourful ‘veins’ across the entire cross-section of the slab. Their diversity offers a multitude of design possibilities, and the structure of the sinters, which imitates a natural raw material, makes it possible to design both classic, modern and minimalist interiors

In addition to the financial prizes (the total pot is €42,000), the organiser is offering the opportunity to win a trip to one of the most anticipated design events – the Salone del Mobile in April 2024

The competition was inaugurated during a conference at Warsaw Home & Contract on 8 November 2023. The competition website and entry form was launched on 13 November. Entries must be submitted by 29 February 2024. The winners of the third edition of the Paradyż Designers competition will be announced at the end of March 2024

The rules and schedule of the competition can be found on the official website paradyzdesigners.com
