Lamps like sculptures. The MOD project by Oliwia Ledzinska won the international competition

Their design won the Additive Design Contest, which is organised by Designtech. The MOD lamps designed by Oliwia Ledzinska were the best-scoring in the Artwork category. On this occasion, the Polish designer’s project was presented to the public during Milan Design Week.

The MOD lamp collection was designed by Oliwia Ledzinska. These are small luminous objects that were made with the help of 3D printing. The collection consists of light objects with organic shapes. The project is an artistic experiment, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern technologies. The work combines aesthetics and functionality and encourages reflection on the relationship between people, nature and technology. The designer has used both manual and digital techniques to create entirely new forms.

I made the assumption that we create completely different things with our hands and completely different things in a 3D programme. For this reason, I combined both techniques, creating forms that are completely new to my work. Thanks to 3D printing, the ‘MOD’ project takes into account the criterion of shape innovation, being able to create unusual, organic forms that would not be possible using traditional methods. Each light object is a fascinating combination of the rawness and mechanics of 3D printing, evident in the texture, and organic shapes that have been precisely modelled by hand. This streamlined shape works perfectly with modern technology to create extraordinary works of craftsmanship with a unique character,” says the designer.

When working on the collection, the designer was inspired by her previous work – paintings full of biophilic and organic motifs. The lamps are a kind of three-dimensional interpretation of these paintings. The creative process started with the preparation of a sketch of the concept, then she prepared models in plastic mass. The next step was scanning the objects and virtual modelling using computer programmes.

MOD was recognised by the jury of the Additive Design Contest organised by Designtec. The Polish designer won it in the Artworks category. The prize is the opportunity to present the project to the public during Milan Design Week. Congratulations!

About the designer:

Oliwia Ledzinska graduated in design from the University of Arts in Poznan. She is a multiple winner of international design competitions and her work has been presented in Poland, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, Taiwan, China and Dubai, during exhibitions and fairs. Her awards include the Green Concept Design Award, the iF DesignTalent Award and the title of Best Polish Designer under 30. On a daily basis, she is involved in developing the NOWO project and managing her own design studio, where she seeks sustainable design solutions together with companies.
