The palace in Bełcz Wielki will be raised from ruin! The Lower Silesian monument will be rescued by its new owners, Gabriela and Marcin Pachołek, who intend to open a luxury hotel in the historic residence with a swimming pool, spa, wellness centre, playroom and two kitchens – one for each of the two dining rooms.

The signing of the sale agreement was announced in a press release by the Provincial Conservator of Monuments in Wrocław, who does not hide his joy at the transaction. The new owners’ ambitious plans are to rebuild the ruined palace, which fell victim to a tragic fire several years ago. The conservator of historical monuments assures that he intends to support the investor in his efforts to resurrect the monument.

The palace in Bełcz Wielki (German: Schloss Oderbeltsch) was built in the 18th century in a village located in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. The Baroque palace was owned in 1787 by Count von Kalkereuth, then by the Schönborn family, and in 1898 the estate was purchased by Ludwig Adolph Theodor Dürr, who rebuilt the property around 1910 and gave it its present appearance. During the Second World War it was already in the possession of the German state, probably due to the owner’s debts. The palace survived the turmoil of war, and thereafter there was an agricultural school and, from the 1970s onwards, an institution and educational centre for children with health and behavioural disorders. The institution existed until 1997, after which the building became the property of a Lower Silesian foundation. The foundation was to set up a centre for senior citizens in the palace. However, nothing came of the plans. The sentence for the monument was to pass into private hands. The interior was looted and the deteriorating palace changed hands. In 2016, the roof of the historic building burned down and was probably set on fire. The property is part of a palace and farm complex, which also includes a park, a cowshed and a granary.

Everything seems to indicate that rescue has come for the palace and its surroundings, and that a new chapter in its centuries-old history has begun with the passing into the hands of Gabriela and Marcin Pachołek.
