The railway station in Ustka has undergone a complete metamorphosis. Its historical character was restored

The interchange centre in Ustka is a major investment worth more than PLN 46 million. It opened in 2021, after many years of effort. It includes a renovated railway station, a new bus station and a complete metamorphosis of their surroundings. The historic railway station building has been restored to its historic character – a clock has been hung at the entrance and the characteristic turret has been returned to the roof. The station in Ustka is as beautiful as it was years ago, in its heyday.

The four-storey railway station building has a total usable area of 664m2, and the new three-storey bus station building has 334m2. It has a solar thermal system and a heat pump for domestic water.

Both buildings are equipped with a visual and voice passenger information system and wi-fi access points, which are also located in the adjacent area, including on the platforms. Preparation for the project began with an architectural competition. The author of the reconstruction project is Malwina Łazęcka-Malińska from the Studio of Architecture “Studium” in Warsaw.

The beginnings of public transport in Ustka date back to the 1840s. It was in those years that stagecoaches started running between Ustka and Słupsk. The first railway station was built only in 1878. The building owes its present shape to reconstructions that took place in the years 1909-1911, when the first railway line between Ustka and Sławno was established.

In addition to works concerning cubature objects, the following were made: a terrace with a ramp enabling communication between buildings through the slope, glazed shelters: a triple platform, between buildings and in front of the entrance to the bus station building, three bicycle shelters and terrain stairs on the slope. Small architectural objects such as benches, bins, bicycle racks and a bicycle repair station were installed. New greenery was also planted, including 145 trees and nearly 5,900 shrubs and bushes.

In addition, a bus terminus with three platforms, TAXI stands, kiss&ride parking, pavements, cycle paths and a total of 258 parking spaces were built. The total value of the construction works is just over PLN 44,415,000. The value of the entire investment is PLN 46 380 000. The funding obtained by the City from the Regional Operational Programme of the Pomeranian Voivodeship is PLN 25 026 949.23.
