Mural with Wisława Szymborska unveiled in Milicz

The mural featuring Wisława Szymborska was designed and created by Konrad Moszyński of the muchaDSGN studio. Its official unveiling took place on Friday, 29 September

The work decorated the wall of the building at the junction of Wrocławska, Cicha and 1-go Maja streets and replaced the ugly advertisements that had hung on the building for years

Work on the mural took almost a month. Its unveiling coincides with the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Polish Nobel Prize winner. The leitmotif of the work was a poem by Wisława Szymborska entitled ‘Moralitet Leśny’. The work refers to the Barycz Valley and describes the beauty of the local nature. In it, the poet draws attention to the picturesque landscape of the ponds surrounding Milicz

The artist Konrad Moszyński immortalised the Nobel laureate at work. Her face seems to be pensive and joyful at the same time, as if she has just come up with a brilliant idea. Cards with the content of the poem float around the portrait – the designer made sure that the letters placed reflect the character of the font known from typewriters

The initiative for the mural came from Milicz Municipality officials. The officials consulted with the residents of the building and obtained the consent of the housing community

The unveiling ceremony was followed by a meeting with Professor Michał Rusinek, who shared his memories of the period when he served as Wisława Szymborska’s secretary for 15 years. Today, the professor is the President of the Wisława Szymborska Foundation
