The flat for a young family was designed by Tamara H. Kolaříková and René Dlesk of RDTH architekti. It is a large space with a high ceiling, in which as many original elements as possible have been preserved.
Such flats have their own unique atmosphere. An attractive location in the centre of Czech Prague, a large space of 172 square metres and a very high ceiling. Added to this are original elements such as doors and windows. Mindful of the history of the Art Nouveau building, RDTH architects opted for minimalism, which was juxtaposed with historical solutions.
The architects’ task was to design the renovation of the interior so that every member of the family would have a comfortable corner in it and so that zones for work, rest and storage would be created. As part of the redevelopment, it was important to them to highlight the original, valuable elements and skilfully complement them with new ones.
The architects introduced double doors into the rooms, creating an amphilade of four spaces. The new layout made it possible to create private areas for the residents, which the architects planned in the corners. The communal space was located in the central area.
We managed to introduce natural light into the bathrooms by means of fanlights. These fanlights in the parents’ bathrooms are complemented by mouldings that increase the sense of privacy,” say the project’s authors.
A novelty in this space is the flooring. This is oak classical parquet, which partially penetrates into the walls. The handles on the old doors have also been replaced. This is a small element, but an important one – the handles were cast in brass. The whole is completed with pendant lamps, which were custom-designed by the DECHEM studio. The family’s flat gained unique design elements and became their dream place to live.
