a 45-square-metre flat overlooking the shipyard cranes.

a 45-square-metre flat with a view of the shipyard cranes was created in Gdańsk by Anna Burzyńska of Noomistudio. The interior was kept in a combination of industrial and minimalist styles, which was no coincidence. The flat’s windows overlook the shipyards and the famous cranes. This exterior element was the starting point for the interior design. The result? Judge for yourself!

The flat was designed in an industrial-minimalist style. The owners intended the flat for short-term rental. The main inspiration for designing the space was the location of the flat.

“The flat is located in the vicinity of the Gdansk Shipyard, so I was keen for the interior to reflect the atmosphere of the surroundings. In addition to the black accents characteristic of the industrial style, I wanted the green colour inspired by the Gdansk shipyard cranes to appear, as well as shades of muted red, a russet characteristic of Gdansk architecture. I also wanted various textures to appear in the interior: smooth, rough and raw, alluding to the shipyard climate.” – architect describes the realisation

The entire floor and the wall behind the headboard in the bedroom were made of ltl-hudson micro-cement, which was intended as a base for what would be on the walls. The kitchenette connected to the living room takes up an entire wall, so I decided to use the material here to unify the entire space.

“To do this – between the kitchen cabinets and the hood – I used a distinctive stone veneer. I was looking for a sheet that incorporated all the colours used in the flat.” – adds the founder of the studio Noomistudio

“I paid a lot of attention to the details. The wall shelf between the hood and the RTV cabinet has special steel tubes attached to the ceiling. Another interesting element is the fluted glass from Loft87 that separates the living room from the bedroom. This simple operation optically enlarged the living room and illuminated the workspace in the bedroom. In the living room, I used the Nora sofa in green with a sleeping function from Optisofa. This strong colour accent gives the interior an unconventional character.” – says Anna Burzyńska

All the built-in elements used in the project are of my own design and were made by a local carpenter. This makes the interior unique and original.

“In the project I used lighting from Nowodvorski and Nordlux. I made sure that all the lamps were in a uniform black colour, in a minimalist style, so that they form a coherent whole. The bathroom design is also noteworthy. In the shower area, I used large-format imitation Corten tiles by Marazzi. The other tiles allude to concrete, which has distinctive terracotta-coloured flecks from Porcelanosa. The washbasin by Omnires mounted on a special frame gives the interior a lightness, fitting in with the industrial-minimalist atmosphere of the whole.” – explains architect Anna Burzyńska of Noomistudio

The flat’s interior layout inspired the architect to highlight the long entrance hall. By painting the entrance wall and ceiling black, the living room was optically separated from the corridor, creating an interesting visual effect. The architect also paid great attention to the styling of the interior.
