ARCHITECTURE in Warsaw. Screening of the film “Uniwersam Grochów”

This is the next meeting in the ARCHITEKA series. Guests of the event will be able to see Tomasz Knittel’s 2018 film ‘Uniwersam Grochów’ and participate in a discussion. The event will take place on Thursday 18 January at 6 p.m. Admission is free.

Worshipful department stores as centres of human gathering. Increasingly degraded spaces of commerce that are not only a place for everyday shopping, but also a haven for meeting, exchanging ideas, making friends. How, why and whether bazaars, markets and shopping plazas should be protected at all? How should revitalisation be carried out so that the spirit of the place is not lost? Is contemporary service architecture primarily a scaled-down, overstimulated product of consumerism? We will seek answers to these and other questions during a discussion after the film.
The discussion will be moderated by Klara Janicka – an active architect, project manager, associated with the APA Wojciechowski studio; she has worked, among other things, on the project for a historic power station converted into a shopping complex: Elektrownia Powiśle in Warsaw; member of the Sustainable Architecture Circle of OW SARP.
Panellists for the event will be: Dominika Janicka – architect, exhibition curator, co-author of the book “Objects that became ladybirds”; incorporates ideas related to spatial order, ethics, friendly design of urban spaces into the public debate; artistic director of the Institute of Design in Kielce, founder of the Fairbuilding Studio and co-founder of the Architects’ Ball initiative; Jan Śpiewak – doctor of sociology, publicist, social activist involved in issues related to, among others.jan Śpiewak – doctor of sociology, publicist, social activist involved in issues related to urban space, member of the Otwarty Jazdów initiative; as a councillor in the Warszawa Śródmieście district, he was involved in the protection of Kino Femina; Aleksandra Wasilkowska – architect, author of award-winning designs for bazaars, i.e. Targowisko Bakalarska, Targ Błonie, Babski Rynek; author of a publication on street trading and market places entitled Architektura Cienia; member of OW SARP.
