Krzysztof Marchlak ‘Art is me’. An unusual exhibition in Krakow

Krzysztof Marchlak presents twelve photographs depicting Krakow artists in public space

Citylights in central locations in Krakow present a selection of Krzysztof Marchlak’s photographs from the ‘Art is me’ series. These are portraits of Krakow painters of different generations
During meetings in the studios, Krzysztof Marchlak builds a scenography for the photographs together with the artists, consisting of their works of art. The painters position themselves against the background of their works – it is in dialogue with their own work that the dense, highly expressive portraits are forged

The photographs bring each of the figures and their temperaments to life in a non-obvious way. They have a painterly quality – through composition, colour and light, they allude to the old masters
The project draws attention to Krakow’s painting, tells the story of local artists, introduces them to residents and tourists and encourages discussion of the creative process. The intention of the presentation is also to promote photography as an important medium of contemporary art
