Metamorphosis of a post-industrial building. Lofts in the Silk Factory in Łódź

Łódź will be enriched by another gem! The pre-war, historic post-factory complex at 13 Wólczańska Street will be transformed into the Silk Factory Lofts. The former Smitz and van Endert complex will undergo a real metamorphosis

The investor is the well-known real estate company Revisit Home, which plans to bring the former factory and residential complex back to life. The complex includes, among others, a corner tenement house and former factory buildings. The general renovation will include, among other things, the replacement of ceilings, internal installations and all other elements devoid of historical value (the building is in the register of historical monuments and is subject to conservation protection). The brick facades, characteristic of post-industrial buildings, will also be exposed

The buildings will be elevated with a new superstructure. There will also be an underground garage and two new buildings matching the architecture of the historic surroundings. Ultimately, the development will offer 7,000 sqm of residential space and 1,000 sqm of usable space for retail and services, which will be located in the ground floors of the buildings, facing the public walkway stretching between the buildings. Most of the flats on the top floors will have private gardens on the roofs

The complex at 13 Wólczańska Street in Łódź is a remnant of a silk wash and apreture factory built in 1887 by the German company Smitz and van Endert. In 1910, a two-storey weaving mill was built on the site, from 1924 a joint-stock company Przemysl Jedwabny operated there, and after the end of World War II, among others, the Knitting Cooperative “Wzór”
