New sculpture in Poznań. It is Mr. Periscope, well known to the people of Poznan!

Mr Periscope (Watcher), is a work of art by the well-known Poznań street artist Noriaki. “Slefie Watcher”, as the artist’s latest work has been named, has been erected on Plac Bernardyński in the centre of Poznań.

The sculpture was installed on the slab of Bernardin Square on Friday 16 December. Mr Periscope, whom the sculpture depicts, is a popular figure that can be found in many Polish cities, but most often appears in Poznań, as this is where the anonymous artist Noriaki originated from.

The initiative to erect a sculpture in this place came from the Old Town Housing Estate Council, and it was their budget that provided the money for making and installing the work.

– The aim was to revive that part of the square where there are no merchants,” explains Jacek Maleszka, chairman of the Spatial Policy and Revitalisation Committee of the Stare Miasto Housing Estate Council. – The sculpture fits well with the concept of developing this part of the space, in anticipation of future revitalisation. We are very pleased with such an initiative, we believe that there is a lack of art in public space in Poland.

Noriaki’s latest work has been given the name Selfie Watcher, because instead of a face, Mr Periscope has a mirror in which we can take a picture of ourselves. It is worth noting that this is not the first article on Noriaki in our service.
