Pachołek’ lookout tower in Gdańsk after renovation

Pachołek Hill is over 100 m above sea level and is located in Gdańsk. The observation tower built on it offers an attractive view of the city. The structure, which dates back to the 1970s, has been renovated and opened to visitors

The “Pachołek” observation tower was built in 1975. It is a steel structure that is 15 m high. Previously, there was a masonry tower on this site, which was built in 1882. The original tower was demolished on 23 March 1945 by retreating German troops from Gdansk

The completion of the renovation work was announced by the Gdańsk Roads and Greenery Authority. During the works, the tower was thoroughly renovated. Its elements were coated with an anti-corrosive layer so that it will survive the harsh weather conditions. On the top of the tower, a new floor was built for the observation deck and the stair treads were replaced. There is a new balustrade, which is higher than the previous one and is now 1.3 m high

The work was preceded by a thorough cleaning of the structure, the removal of corrosion foci, the protection of knots and the coating of selected elements with system paints. The tower now has a dark green colour and, thanks to the protective measures, will successfully serve residents and tourists for many years to come

The “Pachołek” observation tower also gained a new environment. The old pavement at the foot of the tower was replaced with paving stones and a new information board was installed. The total cost of the works is PLN 416 thousand
