The pedestrian and cycle bridge over the Warta River has been opened. The structure connects Owińska with Poznań at the level of Radojewo. It makes it easier to reach Puszcza Zielonka and the nearby attractions.
The official opening of the footbridge was attended by Jacek Jaśkowiak, Mayor of Poznań, as well as Marek Woźniak, Marshall of the Wielkopolskie Voivodeship, Jan Grabkowski, Starost of Poznań, Grzegorz Wojtera, Mayor of Sucha Las and, of course, Marcin Wojtkowiak, Mayor of Czerwonak
– Recently, we have repeatedly demonstrated the importance of local government cooperation at various levels,” said Jacek Jaśkowiak, Mayor of Poznań. – This project, although much smaller than the flyover on the border with Plewiska, is just as important for the residents of our city and district. I am glad that an infrastructure has been created in close proximity to Poznań, which allows for interesting recreational excursions during leisure time
The footbridge has been built at the level of the Cistercian monastery complex in Owińska, on the site of the historic ferry crossing which connected Radojewo with Owińska from the 13th century until the 1940s
– Today’s meeting is undoubtedly an important event, because this investment is a key solution to communication issues when it comes to crossing the Warta river,” stressed Marek Woźniak, Marshall of the Voivodship. – The nearest bridge is in Poznań, the next one is in Biedrusk. This is a significant section of the river, and we are dealing with very attractive tourist regions. From the position of Regional Operational Programme Manager, I see it as an investment which is primarily intended to encourage residents to choose zero-emission modes of transport – in this case, bicycles or walking – and to use collective forms of transport
The highlight of the facility is a tower with two viewing platforms at heights of 12 and over 20 metres. These provide a view of the Warta River from treetop level. The bridge section consists of a three-span suspended structure with a 133.7 m long concrete bridge. Including the entrances on both banks, it is about 200 metres long and wide enough to be used by pedestrians and cyclists at the same time
On the Czerwonak commune side, the footbridge is the “gateway” to the Zielonka Forest and its neighbouring attractions: the Akwen Tropicana bathing lake, the picturesque post-gravel reservoirs, the unique Spatial Orientation Park and the Fragrance Library, and to the post-Cistercian buildings. It is about 6 kilometres from the descent on the Owińsk side to the tower on Dziewicza Góra. The footbridge is also a natural extension of the Warta River Cycling Trail on the western bank of the Warta River and the cycling routes on the eastern side (e.g. Cistercian Cycling Trail, Wooden Churches Trail)
On the west bank, it can be reached or walked from Radojewo via Piołunowa Street or the extension of Nadwarciańska Street going from Naramowice. It is approx. 7 kilometres from the final tram stop on ul. 7 kilometres, while from the Radojewo terminus it is only 2 kilometres
The project, which is worth PLN 27 million, is one example of metropolitan cooperation between Czerwonak Municipality and the City of Poznan, Poznan Poviat and Suchy Las Municipality. The undertaking is co-financed by the European Union as part of the Wielkopolska Regional Operational Programme 2014 – 2020. The City of Poznań has allocated PLN 5 million from its budget and PLN 6 million from additional external support for the investment
