Budynek PO remoncie

Poznan’s first “skyscraper” will turn into a dormitory [NEW VISUALIZATIONS]

It is the first such tall building built in Poznan after the Second World War. It used to be a university building, then an office building, and will soon start operating as a student residence. The project for the metamorphosis of the building was prepared by architects from CDF Architekci

The investment will be carried out by Magis Real Estate, a Dutch real estate investment fund. The building will be remodelled, but mainly on the inside. Its exterior will only be slightly altered, and historical elements will be retained. The revolution will take place on the ground floor. The existing arcades will be closed, so that the ground floor will be enlarged. The former arcades will be heavily glazed

There will be an entrance area on the ground floor, a study area will be created on the first floor. All floors above the ground floor will change their functions – student rooms will be created there, each with a kitchenette and a bathroom. On level -1, which was the technical level, a recreation area will be created with a place to watch films together, cook or do fitness exercises

The building is located in the city centre, at the junction of Powstańców Wielkopolskich Street and Niepodległości Avenue. It has 11 storeys and is 42 metres high. The building was designed by Stanisław Pogórski and Tadeusz Płończak, and its construction was completed in 1950. The building was designed in a style combining socialist realist elements with modernism. Characteristic elements of the building are the sculptures of eagles placed on the cornice

It is worth recalling that the architects who designed the building worked in the Poznań branch of Miastoprojekt. The office was responsible for creating many of the designs that allowed the city to be rebuilt after World War II. The building itself was originally planned as one of three to form a new official district

The redevelopment of the building is already underway. Work is expected to be completed by September 2024. Interestingly, all of the 365 windows that the developer plans to donate to Ukraine for the country’s reconstruction will be replaced
