Roses in the variety of President Stefan Starzyński have appeared at the monument to the last pre-war President of Warsaw, which is located on Warsaw’s Plac Bankowy. The idea is no accident. President Stefan Starzyński was a great admirer of plants and is the initiator of the Warsaw in Flowers campaign, which continues to this day. Flowers not only decorate the space around the monument, but also highlight the history of Warsaw’s hero, recall his qualities and allow for his contribution to the development of the capital in a remarkable way.
The roses had their christening on 27 August 2023 during the final of the 40th Warsaw in Flowers competition. The rose grower Łukasz Rojewski presented his work. The decision to name the bed roses after the President was made by the Warsaw City Council, which also named the year 2023 after him in connection with the 130th anniversary of Starzyński’s birth
“We planted roses of the ‘President Stefan Starzyński’ variety at the President’s monument. They are beautiful, fragrant and commemorate the last pre-war President of Warsaw and the originator of the Warsaw in Flowers competition.” – reads a communiqué from representatives of the Warsaw Urban Greenery Board
