It is a set of fresh and energetic stylings. The ‘Free in the Spirit’ editorial was born out of a desire to explore, the photo shoot used collections by Polish designers, and each person involved in its preparation was able to showcase their individuality.
When working on the “Free in the Spirit” editorial, cinematographer Gabi Gruszka was inspired by art and culture. The abstract images fitted the theme perfectly.
‘We wanted to create an editorial that not only reflects contemporary trends, but also celebrates the diversity and richness of inspiration flowing from the cultural mosaic,’ says Gabi Gruszka.
To achieve the desired effect, bold nonchalance was combined with delicacy and ephemerality. There is harmony between bold and expressive elements and subtlety. Courage and sensitivity coexist. This combination of contrasts was intended to show that fashion can surprise with its balance between dynamism and ethereality.
The resulting photographs are meant to manifest freedom of spirit and creativity. In some frames, the models assume dynamic poses, which emphasises the aforementioned freedom and changeability. The cinematographer wanted to show that fashion can be like dancing, full of freedom and expression. It is not just a collection of clothes, but also a story about the lightness of existence and the courageous manifestation of one’s authenticity.
Colours are like emotions that come together in unique ways. They are like different experiences that affect our lives. With this mix of colours, we wanted to highlight the diversity of human stories and individuality. Within the editorial, we decided to juxtapose intense, vibrant colours, led by cobalt/chaber, with pastel colours. This contrasting set reflects the freedom to express oneself through fashion,” adds the cinematographer.
Gabi Gruszka is a cognitive scientist and biologist by training, a graduate of the Individual Interdisciplinary Studies. She completed a year-long photography school and took part in numerous courses and workshops. She gained experience as a photographer by working in the United States and Greece. She has had two exhibitions: an individual one in Poland and a group one in Germany.
