The porcelain market in Ćmielów is now open! It was filled with huge cups

The porcelain market square in Ćmielów has been opened up to the public. The town, which is famous for its porcelain, wants to emphasise its heritage, which is why city furniture in the form of huge cup seats was placed on the square, and a fountain with a large teapot, from which water flows, was installed in the central point

The porcelain service that has been installed in the market square in Ćmielów is the Empire model from the Porcelany Fabryka Ćmielów i Chodzież in Ćmielów, which was designed at the request of President Ignacy Mościcki and used at the Royal Castle. The Empire collection became official tableware at the Belvedere in 2012 – such a choice was made by then-presidential couple Bronisław and Anna Komorowski. Today, such tableware can also be found at the court of the King of the Belgians, the Vatican and Polish diplomatic missions

During the revitalisation work, the surface of the square was rebuilt and four cups were placed on the pavement to serve as seats. A teapot more than four metres high was installed in the central area as a fountain. The site was officially opened on Saturday 23 September

Ćmielów has stood for porcelain for centuries. When planning the revitalisation, we could not imagine not to refer to this history and tradition. (…) From now on in Ćmielów you can not only drink coffee and tea from unique porcelain sets, but also sit in cups in the Market Square,” said Joanna Suska, Mayor of Ćmielów, during today’s ceremony

The unusual furniture was commented on by Marek Cecuła, designer of Ćmielów porcelain, who wrote on Facebook: “A new installation with a local theme appears on Ćmielów’s main square. No comments.”

The new urban furniture was made by a company that specialises in manufacturing hulls for ships. According to the Polish Press Agency, it took 500 hours to cast one cup

As part of the revitalisation, new greenery was also planted and new lighting was installed. In total, the works consumed more than 5 million zlotys. The municipality of Ćmielów obtained the funds from the government’s Polski Ład fund, and the municipality’s own contribution was only 5 per cent
