A hole in the Piotrkowska frontage has been ruining the aesthetics of the street for the past 15 years. The empty plot belonged to PGE Dystrybucja SA, but the company was in no hurry to develop this valuable plot. The new owner of the plot at 58 Piotrkowska St., BUDOMAL Rafał Leśniak, will rebuild a tenement house there, which was demolished 15 years ago. Flats will be built here!
BUDMAL acquired the plot at the end of 2023. As the company’s representatives assure us, everything is on track to soon start rebuilding the tenement house of David Israel Freind, which was demolished 15 years ago due to its poor condition. The Freind tenement was built in 1874. In 1912, his heirs raised it by an additional storey. Until 2007, the building was owned by the city, when it was bought by the Lodz Energy Company Łódź-Teren, which wanted to set up its headquarters there.
However, the building turned out to be in a bad technical condition, so with the consent of the conservator of monuments, ŁZET decided to demolish it, committing itself to build it anew. The tenement was demolished in 2009, but reconstruction was never undertaken. ŁZET was incorporated into PGE Dystrybucja, which was not interested in such an investment in Łódź. PGE only decided to sell the property in 2018.
– In December 2023, as a result of negotiations, BUDOMAL became the owner of this unique space, which will regain its identity and former splendour. The outbuilding deep in the courtyard will be tackled first. The reconstruction of the building will be the second stage of the project, requiring very careful formal preparations. We want to proceed with the project as soon as possible, but the exact date for the start of construction work depends on administrative decisions, obtaining approvals for construction work,” announces Piotr Leśniak, BUDOMAL’s sales director.
BUDOMAL plans to provide more information about the investment at 58 Piotrkowska Street and the progress in formal and legal matters at the end of the second quarter of this year. It is also worth mentioning here that the same company will be responsible for the construction of two high-rise buildings in the centre of Łódź. We have written about the skyscrapers here:
