Less concrete, more greenery. 39,000 sq.m of concrete removed in Warsaw in 2022!

In 2022, 39,000 square metres of concrete were removed in Warsaw. In its place, small squares, green areas, flowerbeds or flowerbeds were created. Excess concrete was removed in many places in the capital. Both on pavements that are too wide, in places of wild car parks, as well as on streets, roundabouts and road lanes. As a result, there is an abundance of new greenery in Warsaw every year

In 2022, splashing was carried out as part of the implementation of projects from the civic budget, the Green Fund for Warsaw, as well as during the construction of the Integrator Square in Bielany (first stage) or the modernisation of Pole Mokotowskie Park

The Theatre Square, the intersection of Jana Pawła II and Solidarności Avenue, Siedmiogrodzka, Skierniewicka, Niemcewicza and Korotyńskiego, among others, has become more colourful and cheerful. Colourful perennials, bulbous plants, roses, and two maple-leaf plane trees are now in bloom in the slab areas, and at Jana Pawła Avenue and Solidarności Avenue. Greenery has also been made in several locations on Grójecka Street (the result of projects from the 2021 civic budget)

‘The splash works also concern the water bodies in the areas under our care. As part of the modernisation of Pole Mokotowskie park, the water reservoirs were renaturalised and around 15,000 m2 of hardened surface was removed. Over 2,600 m2 of concrete was also removed during the renovation of the eastern rosette of the Piaseczynski Canal. Most of this area is now biologically active surface. The work was completed in 2023 as part of an EU project to protect endangered species associated with aquatic habitats in the capital.” – explained in a communiqué representatives of the Warsaw Urban Greenery Board, whose unit removed more than 3,000 sq m of concrete from the city’s
