The tenement house at 64 Żelazna Street will regain its former glory. Renovation of the Wola landmark begins

In the building at Żelazna 64, the second and most important stage of renovation of the historic building is beginning. The building will undergo comprehensive modernisation and thermo-modernisation. It is a silent witness to history and an extremely valuable building for the whole of Warsaw. The works are to be completed by 30 November 2025

The Anna Koźmińska Tenement House is located at 64 Żelazna Street, on the corner of Krochmalna Street. Construction of the building, designed by Józef Napoleon Czerwiński, began around 1896 and was completed in 1912. The building was located within the boundaries of the Warsaw Ghetto and was damaged during the 1944 uprising. In 2009, the tenement was entered in the register of historical monuments

Last year, renovation works were carried out inside the historic tenement house. The building boasts a renovated staircase and a renovated gate clearance. The works were carried out by Zakład Gospodarowania Nieruchomościami in the Wola district. Now the district has signed a contract with a contractor who will carry out the second, most important and most complicated stage of the investment for PLN 8.3 million. Among other things, the works will include new balcony panels with restoration of original details, renovation of all elevations of the building, replacement of door and window frames, replacement of shop windows of commercial premises from Krochmalna Street, restoration of the original steel gate, insulation of the attic ceiling, thermo-modernisation of the entire building and replacement of the lightning protection system

The district assumes that this phase of the project will be completed by 30 November 2025 at the latest. – We are very pleased that after so many years it will be possible to restore the tenement house at Żelazna 64 to its former glory. This house is an important part of the history of our district and deserves a ‘new life’ – points out Mateusz Matejewski, director of ZGN Wola
