They did it brilliantly! Chojnice railway station after renovation

The railway station in Chojnice has been opened after renovation. It is a building from 1873, so a lot of architectural detail has been preserved here. Now the building is once again pleasing to the eye, and the rich decorations in the refreshed version are impressive.

The building belongs to the city, so the local authority was responsible for revitalising the building. All in all, the total cost of the work amounted to PLN 24 million. The renovation of the building took more than two years. The investment did not concern the station building itself, but also a larger reconstruction. During the works, the tunnel under the tracks was extended, a car park and a bus stop were built.

Only part of the building was used for passenger services. This concerns the waiting area with ticket offices. The space on the first floor was allocated to the Municipal Police, which now operates a municipal monitoring centre in the renovated building.

A restaurant or café will soon be operating in the building – one of the premises has been earmarked for a catering outlet. There are three more spaces in the building for retail or services.

The railway station in Chojnice is a historical monument. The building is located in the central part of the station between platforms two and three. It is worth appreciating the care with which the works were carried out. The whole process was supervised by a conservation officer, who was consulted at every stage of the work. Among other things, the historic coffers have been restored. However, some of them are new; not all were suitable for reconstruction. The renovated façade is two-coloured, the older part being yellow and the newer part red.
