Wawel Castle: auction of a unique tour of the royal attic as part of the GOCC collection

It is from here that one of the most beautiful views of Krakow can be enjoyed. However, only a few castle employees have access to it. An opportunity has just arisen for each of us to become a special guest in the royal attic of this Renaissance residence and see, during a unique tour, what Wawel Castle hides in the nooks and crannies that are inaccessible on a daily basis.

The Wawel Royal Castle has joined the auction in support of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity, presenting a proposal for a unique tour of the – never open to the public – Wawel attic, accompanied by an exceptional guide.

At present, the Wawel Castle’s attic serves mainly technical functions, hiding the power supply, ventilation and fire systems infrastructure in its nooks and crannies. However, the steel structure of the roof, which is an example of historic technology and dates back to the beginning of the 20th century, arouses the interest of experts and laymen alike because of its uniqueness. It is the first metal roof truss of this scale in Poland. The decision to build a new roof was made in 1905, after the Royal Castle was recaptured from Austrian hands. The building was largely devastated, including the roof. At that time, a special steel structure was developed, reminiscent of the original one from the Renaissance period. It was substantially completed in 1914, before the start of the First World War.

The winners of the auction will learn the little-known story of the creation of the Wawel residence, experience history – literally – at their fingertips, and enter where no visitor’s eyes normally reach.

We encourage you to join the bidding!
