A house with a sauna in the heart of the forest. The architects designed it for themselves!

A cottage with a sauna in the heart of a forest is the latest project from Czech studio HYTTA. Interestingly, the architects are also the owners of the cottage. How did they go about designing their own place where they can breathe in nature? Check it out!

We are creators by nature. It fulfils us to materialise our dreams and breathe life into our ideas. However, we often face obstacles specific to the current times: constant notifications, digital noise and the constant need to check our phones. These factors prevent us from realising our full potential and delving into the things that are important to us. For this reason, Dominik Ilichman and Adam Hofman created Hytta, a modern cabin in nature where one can create and reflect on important matters without distractions

The main intention of architects Adam Hofman and Dominik Ilichman was to design a place that works in harmony with the natural surroundings. This harmony helps to provide sufficient space for reflection and inspiration. The combination of privacy, nature and high-quality work space allows you to break free from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and discover new ideas and things that you really value

The goal was Scandinavian minimalism. No superfluous elements that could be distracting. At the same time, Hytta contains the standards we are used to today, so that you feel comfortable and can concentrate without distractions. The spacious terrace and windows on all sides connect the interior with the surroundings, allowing you to use nature as a source of creativity and inspiration

The hytta is located on a south-facing slope, on the edge of a pine forest that separates the cottage from civilisation, providing plenty of privacy. The floor plan is inspired by an old hunting lodge, retaining its overall shape. The ground floor features a living area with kitchen, hallway, bathroom, utility room and a second bathroom accessible from the outside

The main living area has a high pitched roof, providing ample space for creativity. From the living area you can access the bathroom, which offers a striking and intimate atmosphere thanks to the black spout and furniture. The staircase in the kitchen, made of fine sheet metal, is suspended by ropes and rises gracefully to the master bedroom. This bedroom faces east and the morning sun streams into the room through its large window, allowing you to watch nature awaken directly from the comfort of your bed. The bedroom also provides access to the first of two cosy nooks. The second nook is located in the small loft above the main living area and is accessible via a ladder. Both nooks provide additional sleeping accommodation, allowing Hytta to comfortably accommodate up to six people

In the living area, a large oak table serves as both a dining area and a workspace. Technical facilities, including a computer monitor, can be easily extended over the table from one of the library cabinets. The quality of the workspace is further enhanced by the Starlink internet service and biodynamic lighting that emits no blue light after dark, promoting better sleep. The Hytta is heated mainly by a cast-iron wood-burning cooker, with additional temperature control provided by underfloor heating

High-quality relaxation is also an essential part of undisturbed creativity. For this reason, just a few metres from the Hytta is a modern Finnish sauna with a cold plunge bath. The facility is located on a slightly sloping site, offering an uninterrupted view of nature while enjoying the sauna. The 6 x 3.5 metre facility consists of a relaxation area, a shower area and the Finnish sauna itself. Like the Hytta, it embodies the spirit of Scandinavian minimalism and, with its deep charred wood cladding, almost blends in with the surrounding nature. The structure is anchored with earth bolts and access to the building is provided by a steel ramp, giving the building a pleasant sense of lightness
