Krystian Lupa – ‘Island’. New exhibition at MOCAK opens

In just a few days, the exhibition Krystian Lupa – ‘Wyspa’ will be launched at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow – MOCAK. This is a good opportunity to get to know the artist’s graphic work. Although Krystian Lupa is regarded as one of the best theatre directors in Poland, his relationship with art has a deeper dimension

Krystian Lupa is another theatrical revelation after Wyspianski, Kantor and Grotowski. His performances have passed into the history and DNA of theatre. He is a visionary, a performer and an inspired stage operator. Such personalities are always simmering within themselves. They release energy and seek fulfilment in various fields. Even theatre is not enough for them, although it is the creatively richest medium

Krystian Lupa studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow and is still drawn to the image. He realises this in his excellent videoscenographies and in his drawings, nowadays mainly computer drawings. As if this were not enough, he also practices autobiographical writing. He analyses himself and those close to him. Because he is an open and unashamed man – in the good sense of the word – these stories have the power of confession

The exhibition of drawings under the title Island will be accompanied by a book with the same title, combining drawings with texts. The introduction of the word ‘Wyspa’ should be seen as a confession
