Renovation of a historic villa in the centre of Poznań. It will become the seat of the Institute of Art History of the Adam Mickiewicz University

A historic villa on Wieniawskiego Street in Poznań will undergo comprehensive modernisation. The building will be adapted for the needs of the Institute of Art History and the Faculty of Art Sciences at Adam Mickiewicz University. The university authorities announced a competition in May, and now the results are known. The work prepared by the SPA Design Office received the highest marks.The renovation of the villa at Wieniawskiego Street is to be completed in 2026

Participants in the architectural competition for the redevelopment of the historic villa at 3 Wieniawskiego Street were expected to design a project for the renovation and adaptation of the building to meet the needs of the Institute of Art History and the Faculty of Art Sciences, as well as to develop the neighbouring grounds, including the former animal house. It formerly housed the Institute of Hygiene by Fritz Teubner, founded in the early 20th century. The competition had the recommendation of the local branch of SARP

The architects of the winning SPA Design Office, composed of M.Sc. arch. Grzegorz Sadowski, mgr inż. arch. Lidia Łukaszewska, M.Sc. arch. Monika Wojtczyk, M.Sc. arch. Dagmara Mędrzycka, M.Sc. arch. Robert Pawłowski, M.Sc. arch. Magdalena Biegniewska and arch. Viktor Kupov have planned most of the important spaces in the former villa. According to the concept, there will be teaching rooms, a social area for students, offices and surgeries. They envisaged a library in the animal house, connected to the main building by an underground link with skylights. A garden similar to the old one will be created between the historic buildings for integration, and the buildings themselves will be restored to their historic appearance. All this while respecting the historic character and using the original furnishings
