Szczecin Dąbie railway station is in for a revolution. Modernisation of the building will take a year and a half

Szczecin Dąbie railway station is in for a real revolution. Modernisation work is about to begin, after which the neglected facility will become the pride of this part of the city. The work will focus on rebuilding the main building and adapting it to meet the needs of people with disabilities.

Inside, there will be space for a brand new waiting room, ticket offices and toilets, but also a catering unit and a bakery, as well as rooms for hire. Part of the building will also be used as office space for the local authority.

The two decorative anchor grilles will be retained and the auxiliary building will disappear. In addition, new greenery and a small car and bicycle parking area are planned around the building. The shape of the station will remain unchanged, although the building will be insulated. In the meantime, passengers will use the temporary station.

The Dąbie railway station (German: Bahnhof Altdamm) was built as part of the construction of the railway line in 1846. During the Second World War the building was bombed and after 1945 a new building was erected in its place. The fact that the Szczecin Dąbie railway station deviates from modern standards has been rumoured for years. It is in need of comprehensive renovation, as it is worn out and not fully accessible to people with disabilities; there are no working toilets inside and problems with heating.

The works are expected to take a year and a half. The modernisation of Dąbie station is part of the PKP S.A.’s ongoing Station Investment Programme 2016-2023.
