Szczecin: New life for an old house. This is how they decorated the interior

This is a building from 1972. New life was breathed into the walls of the old house by architects from the Loft Kolasinski studio. After the renovation, its décor resembles an elegant villa, filled with modern design but also with vintage objects

The architects had a lot of work to do. This is because the area of the house is 190 square metres. The architects’ task was to design the interior, the staircase and the new fireplace. In addition, they designed the interior woodwork and some of the furniture. However, not everything here is brand new. Some of the valuable furniture and lighting are old items

The new owner of the building decided to carry out the renovation. The work included a partial reconstruction of the interior. This enabled the architects to design a new staircase and fireplace. The design premise was to cover these elements with traditional plaster, as were most of the walls and ceilings in the building. In some rooms, the concrete ceiling and structural elements were left unplastered

For the project, we gathered a substantial collection of classic furniture, lamps and accessories from Europe and the USA. For the most part, these are vintage objects that have been renovated,” say the project’s authors

One of the most interesting items is a floor lamp designed by Jean Rispal, model 14.950 from 1950, also known as the ‘Mantis’. The second unique design element is the window curtains in the corridor. The fabric they are made of dates from the 1960s. It is an original design by Danuta Michno-Paprowicz and is called ‘Smugi’. The type of fabric is Shandong-silk serge

The unique furniture we can find in the interior was designed by Loft Kolasinski. These include a library, beds, bedside tables, wardrobes, bathroom and kitchen furniture. The whole is crowned with photographs, which decorate the walls. Their author is Erwin Olaf. Additionally, paintings by Ania Luk have appeared here
