The beauty of tranquillity. New home interior in Gdansk

This is an unusual project. The author was tasked with creating a new interior for a house in Gdansk, but only in the ground floor. The owners wanted changes that would make the living area easier to use and create an attractive space for spending time together

The interior was designed by Karolina Watus of the Leipuri Interiors studio. It was she who was approached by the clients, a mature couple who wanted to refresh the communal area of their twenty-year-old home

The clients were open to my ideas, and a key part of their expectations was to create a two-coloured kitchen with wood elements and add an island, explains Karolina Watus

Despite their age, the investors were open to modern solutions. The designer proposed an eclectic style with strong touches of modernism and rounded shapes. The heart of the kitchen became an island with rounded edges and an incision in the wood. A unique element is the showcase with illuminated fronts made of ‘flute’ stained glass, which interacts with the rounded cabinet fronts to create a coherent and harmonious whole

In the living room and dining room areas, the designer concentrated on refreshing the existing elements, without carrying out a major overhaul. She changed the décor by adding curtains, changing the colour of the walls and replacing furniture. In the living room, a television appeared on the large wall. Just behind it, the surface was taken up by panels with characteristic milling in the shape of arches

In the dining room, I decided to replace the table and chairs with wooden ones and added a chest of drawers with louvre fronts, which perfectly complements the entire décor of the house,” adds the designer

The interior of the house in Gdańsk now has walls painted in a white shade of old marble with subtle additions of stucco. To break up the monotony, two walls are covered with structural wallpaper in a shade of malachite green. The whole is topped off with accessories – art deco lighting with elements made of marble. In total, the designed area covered 120 square metres
