The Old Pump Room in Goczałkowice-Zdrój is delightful again. It looks as it did at the end of the 19th century.

The Old Pump Room in Goczałkowice-Zdrój has regained its former historical splendour. Conservation and construction work began in mid-2022. Their scope included, among other things, the repair and replacement of structural elements, the replacement of the roof covering and the conservation and replacement of some of the fine window woodwork. In order to restore the building to its historical state, it was also decided to return the pump room to its original colour scheme. The value of the investment amounted to over PLN 1 million

Before starting the works, a project documentation was prepared, based on expert opinions, conservation studies and archival searches, in order to restore the building as much as possible to its state from the times of its splendour, i.e. from the end of the 19th century

The Old Pump Room building (formerly the Maria Quelle spring and Altes Badehaus) is a monument of park architecture erected in 1862. The building was built on a wooden frame construction, with large polygonal windows and a hipped roof. Over the years, the colour of the building changed, which was confirmed by stratigraphic research carried out by the Provincial Office for the Protection of Monuments in Katowice. The Pump Room is located in the Goczałkowice-Zdrój Spa complex and is currently one of the oldest buildings preserved there

After last year’s stunning modernisation of the building, which consisted of a series of conservation and restoration works, together with construction works such as the repair of the roof consisting in the removal of the covering, soggy boarding and flashings, the replacement of damaged structural elements, the repair of the dormer, the renovation of historic windows and their partial replacement, restoration of the original colours of the building exterior and interior, reconstruction of the decorative boarding of the ground floor, removal of secondary interior equipment, restoration of the previous character of the pump room interior by installing a new floor, vertical and horizontal insulation of the walls, the building regained its former splendour and, above all, its function as a pump room.

It is now possible to conduct crenotherapy there, i.e. treatment with drinking medicinal waters using the benefits of the precious minerals. The Old Pump Room also sells Goczała natural mineral water – delicately flavoured and rich in diverse mineral components. The renovation work gained recognition and was awarded first place in the national competition “Modernisation of the Year and Construction of the 21st Century” in the “Small is Beautiful” category
