The WAK 2023 conference ‘CONTEMPORARY LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE’ is organised by the Landscape Architecture Association. The theme of the event will be soil as a basis for ecosystem design. The conference will take place on 9-10 November
Soil is the basis of life on our Planet, unfortunately it is also the element most overlooked in the process of green space design and management. Why do we pay so little attention to soil…?
Caring for soil is one of the most important challenges of our time. Healthy soil is a lifeline in the worsening climate crisis and biodiversity loss. Healthy soil is also the basis for designing truly biodiverse roofs that do not create an excessive carbon footprint and rely on supporting the laws of nature. We want to speak out about this, which is why this year’s WAK conference is dedicated to soil
CONFERENCE: 10 November 2023
Experts, scientists and representatives of green industry companies will talk about, among other things: the soil food web, the significant role of ‘leafminers’, earthworms or mycorrhiza in ensuring the right parameters in the soil. There will also be talk about the power of local community action, the power of biodiversity in remediating soil conditions, and the usefulness of soil analysis in design. There will also be a look from the perspective of the nursery industry and inspiration from the realisation of living roofs
The itinerary includes visits to esteemed realisations of urban space in Krakow. The tour will be led by Kasper Jakubowski, Małgorzata Tujko, Marcin Gajda and Łukasz Pawlik. The planincludes
Wisława Szymborska Park

IFLA Europe is the European branch of the oldest organisation of landscape architects in the world. The organisation currently has 34 members – national associations of landscape architects. Poland is represented by SAK.
Soil-related issues are a continuation of theEcosystem Based Designdeliberations inaugurated by SAK during the WAK 2022 conference. The inspiration and knowledge gained at WAK allow for a better understanding in the industry and improve the quality of projects.
We invite you to participate in this unique event. Let’s learn from each other and discuss so that we can then create resilient, healthy and great-looking environments, i.e… change the world for the better!
