Angular pick-up truck from Tesla on sale. Tesla Cybertruck

Tesla’s angular pick-up truck has finally gone on sale. The Cybertruck is inspired by futuristic concepts from the 1980s and is said to combine comfort with durability. Elon Musk wanted to create the car of the future. An electric car that offers functionality in addition to an unusual appearance. Against the background of competing solutions, the ‘car of the future’ from Tesla does not cost a fortune.

The body is made of robust stainless steel. In Tesla’s promotional material, testers can be seen shooting the doors of the Cybertruck with a gun. Despite minor dents, the car’s doors remain whole. The steel structure acts as an exoskeleton, which makes the car’s body rigid and does not bend. Another durable element of the car is its glass. The glass is bulletproof and improves acoustics. It is quiet inside.

The Cybertruck has a minimalist interior. There is an 18.5-inch screen on the dashboard, which can be used to change the car’s settings. A similar but smaller screen is located at the rear. The sound system is responsible for the 15 speakers and 2 subwoofers. Another interesting feature is the HEPA filter system. These are supposed to purify the air entering the interior and keep the occupants safe, even in the event of air contamination.

The space in the boot is generous and is intended to allow the transport of equipment and building materials. The rear boot is lockable and has a capacity of 1,900 litres. Additional storage space is located in the boot under the bonnet. The 5.6-metre-long pick-up also offers plenty of room for passengers, and the feeling of space is enhanced by the glass roof.

Cyberbestia

The car is available in 3 variants: rear-drive, 4×4 and in the most expensive version under the name: “Cyberbeast”. The basic version has one engine and a range of approximately 400 km. In this configuration, the car reaches 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds. The rear-drive Cybertruck costs approximately $60,000 (approx. £241,000). At a similar price, you can buy a Ford F150 with medium equipment. The price is an estimate so far, as the Cybertruck in this version is not due to be delivered to customers until 2025.

The 4×4 version currently costs $80,000 (£321,000) and reaches 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds. The range of this version is longer at around 550 km. The car has two electric motors and the 4×4 drive allows it to traverse the most difficult terrain. Of course, this functionality also has to do with the car’s high air suspension.

The Cyberbeast is a version that focuses primarily on performance. The vehicle needs 2.6 seconds to accelerate to 100 km/h. Its top speed is higher than cheaper models at 210 km/h. The impressive performance, especially in terms of acceleration, is due to the work of three electric motors. The range of the Cyberbestia is approximately 40 km less than that of the 4×4 version. To correct this, the Cyberbestia also has 4×4 drive. The rear wheels are steerable, which means that the car has a ‘crab walk’ option. On the two- and three-motor models, it is possible to add an extra battery to extend the range by more than 80 km.

An angular impostor?

Musk’s idea of creating a pick-up truck of the future first appeared in the media around 2014. At the time, it was simply supposed to be Tesla’s answer to Ford and Chevrolet cars. However, at the very first presentation of the Cybertruck prototype, the car’s uncommonness divided audiences. For some, it was a dream come true for a car straight out of Blade Runner; for others, it was a huge disappointment with the angular design. At the first presentation in 2019. Musk also wanted to demonstrate the durability of the Cybertruck’s windows. To do so, he threw a metal ball at the glass. At that point, the glass could not withstand and cracked. The sins of that presentation dragged on the project for a long time.

The Cybertruck stirs up emotions. Its unique design has as many supporters as opponents. Which group are you in?
