Station in Kuźnica on the Hel Peninsula opened after renovation

A neglected building has been renovated. The railway station in Kuźnica on the Hel Peninsula gained a clinker façade and a renovated interior. It is a historic building, so the work took place under the supervision of a conservation officer.

The railway station in Kuźnica on Hel was built in 1927. Its renovation took place with EU funding. The old and dirty plaster disappeared from the station’s façade and natural brick-coloured clinker tiles with architectural details were restored. The new historically styled windows and doors are kept in dark brown tones. The roof in the upper part is covered with brick-coloured plain tiles, while the lower ground floor and the new carport are covered with dark grey metal sheets. The station’s body is highlighted by a new illumination at night

Thanks to the reconstruction, passenger services have been restored at the station. The facility has two waiting rooms, including a seasonal one. Both spaces are air-conditioned, decorated in modern greys and equipped with benches, display cabinets, bins, a voice information system, and the lobby additionally features electronic train arrival and departure boards. Toilets are also provided in the building. In addition, there is a small rental space and technical rooms

Thanks to the investment, architectural barriers have been eliminated and improvements have been made for people with disabilities. These include signs in Braille, pathways for the blind and visually impaired and contrasting interior colours, ” describe the railwaymen

During the works, the building was insulated, photovoltaic panels were installed for the generation of “green energy”, energy-efficient lighting, heating with a heat pump and a BMS (Building Management System) to control installations and equipment and optimise electricity, heat and water consumption. The station is also safer thanks to a modern monitoring system
